Finland operates a world-renowned education system under the Ministry of Education and Culture, centred on the peruskoulu: nine years of compulsory comprehensive education (ages 7-16) in a single inclusive school structure. After the peruskoulu, students choose between general upper secondary (lukio) and vocational education. The system serves roughly 600,000 students. The matriculation examination (ylioppilastutkinto) at the end of lukio is the sole university entrance examination, now administered digitally.
