Accessibility

Our Commitment
We aim to make SchoolKit usable by educators with different accessibility needs and continuously improve our adherence to WCAG guidance. SchoolKit is used by teachers, administrators, and school staff worldwide — including people who rely on assistive technologies to navigate the web.
What We Do
- Keyboard navigation — All tools and pages can be navigated using a keyboard. Interactive elements have visible focus states.
- Semantic HTML — We use proper heading hierarchies, landmark regions, lists, and form labels so screen readers can parse page structure.
- ARIA labels — Interactive components include appropriate ARIA attributes where native HTML semantics are insufficient.
- Color contrast — We aim for sufficient contrast ratios between text and background colors in both light and dark modes.
- Reduced motion — We respect the
prefers-reduced-motionmedia query and minimize animations for users who prefer less motion. - Skip links — A “Skip to main content” link is available on every page for keyboard and screen reader users.
- Form labels — All form inputs use associated labels or
aria-labelattributes.
Known Limitations
We are honest about where we still need to improve:
- PDF exports — PDFs generated by our tools may not be fully accessible. We recommend using the web-based tool interface as the primary way to interact with your data.
- Complex interactive tools — Some tools with drag-and-drop or complex visual layouts may have limited accessibility for advanced features. The core functionality remains keyboard-accessible.
- Map-based tools — The School Bus Route Planner uses an interactive map that may be challenging for screen reader users. We provide alternative text-based inputs where possible.
What We Don't Claim
We do not claim full WCAG 2.1 AA or AAA compliance. Accessibility is an ongoing process, and we work to improve our tools continuously. We have not undergone a formal third-party accessibility audit, but we follow WCAG guidance in our development practices.
